Saundra Lee (Pope) Claycomb, 66, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at NorthCare Hospice House at North Kansas City Hospital.
Saundra was born on April 24, 1946 to LeRoy H. and Jean E. (Miller) Pope in Denver, Co. She graduated from Chestnut Ridge High School, class of 1964, in Fishertown, Pa. Saundra then attended Strayer Business School in Baltimore, Md.
On May 18, 1968 she was united in marriage to Rodger Claycomb in Pasadena, Md. After their marriage they moved numerous times. The last time was from the San Francisco Bay area in 1978 when they moved to Smithville, Mo. where they made their home.
Saundra lived a full and active life, living in many different places experiencing things that most individuals never have the opportunity to do. She was a very loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
As a young teenager her family lived in Saigon, Vietnam where her father worked in heavy construction prior to the war. Later in life she lived in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia due to her husband’s work with TWA. Her favorite vacation spot was Hawaii, where she visited numerous times during her life.
She last worked for Wheatbelt, Inc from 1993 to 2004 and decided it was time to spend quality time with her grandchildren.
Saundra was a member of the service sorority Beta Sigma Phi Hoover Chapter for 20 years and enjoyed the times together with her sorority sisters. During her membership, she held all board offices and was twice the recipient of “Woman of the Year” award.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and an infant brother, Patrick, sister-in-law Judy (Corle) Claycomb.
Saundra is survived by her husband, Rodger, of the home; two daughters, Marlo L. Black and husband Richie of Tonganoxie, Ks. and Amy G. Buchholz and husband, Tim of Kansas City, Mo; grandchildren, Richard, Rodger, Ryan, Gillian, Tobi, Ethan, Jessie Ryan and husband, James, Mission, Ks, and Hester; Lawrence, Ks, great granddaughter, Caitlin; sisters, Elizabeth Pope Williams, Jeanie Suddreth and husband Eddie , Suzanne Stephens and husband Howard; brother, LeRoy Pope II from Maryland; uncle, James P. Miller and wife Betty, Bedford Pa; brothers-in-law, Larry Claycomb and wife Doris; Robert Claycomb, Okeechobee, Fl; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Memorial Service: 4:30 p.m. at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville, Saturday, June 30th with visitation following until 6:30 p.m.
